I have no conclusions to draw or point to make from the chart posted below. You may draw your own.
I hear people talk about being censored on Facebook—if not outright (I’ve been suspended a few times), then at least by Facebook’s algorithms moving certain posts lower on friends’ feeds so that they are not easily seen (shadow banning). I don’t doubt it happens—in fact I’m sure it does—but I don’t know it for a fact. And I don’t know that the chart below necessarily suggests any patterns. Again, draw your own conclusions.
Below I have listed all of my Facebook posts since December 1, 2023. That date was chosen because that’s when I got tired of spending a Saturday morning typing in old Facebook posts.
For each post, Facebook offers “insights” about “impressions,” “reach” and “engagement.”
- Impressions are “the number of times your post was on screen. “
- Reach is the “number of people who saw any of your posts at least once. Reach is different from impressions, which may include multiple views of your posts by the same people. This metric is estimated.”
Facebook also provides a number of post “engagements,” which include people’s reactions, comments and “other clicks.” These are things that users do when they see a post—not things that Facebook does.
Facebook says that some insights are only available when the total is at least 100, which is probably why some insights below are not available or reported. The posts listed were not “boosted,” which is a process by which you can pay Facebook to make a post be seen by more people.
A couple posts were links to articles I wrote and cross-posted to both my website (kenmcentee.com) and my Substack site.
See for yourself what types of post content has reached more people than others on Facebook. You also can see what types of posts appear to resonate most with viewers.
