I can’t say I’m disappointed that 102.1 FM, Cleveland’s Christmas radio station, has pulled “Baby It’s Cold Outside” from its holiday playlist.
The song is obnoxious and has as much relevance to Christmas as “Eve of Destruction” or “My Ding-a-Ling,” and I’ll be okay if I never ever hear it again.
But did they seriously ban it because people were offended by a song about a guy trying to convince a woman to stay over?
Are songs with mistletoe references next? We know what happens under those things.
And why haven’t they banned Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer from the TV after the licentious calf offered to walk Clarice home? I think we know all about that reindeer game. Good thing her old man showed up to nip that burst of hormones in the bud.
“The world we live in is extra sensitive now, and people get easily offended,” 102.1 DJ Glenn Anderson admitted, announcing that the station is acquiescing to people who are easily offended.
Fortunately, those who like the song, for whatever reason, can move a few megahertz up the dial to Magic 105.7, which seems to play it every 20 minutes.
The good news is that the elimination of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” allows for more repetitions of “Christmas Shoes,” “Last Christmas,” “Please Come Home for Christmas,” and other uplifting holiday tales of death and shattered relationships.
